Corporate Brief

Helpers Social Development Foundation is a duly registered nonprofit and nonpolitical organization in Nigeria with registration No: 131317 formed in 2016 but officially registered with Nigeria Corporate Affairs Commission on 27th June 2019. The foundation was established out of patriotic spirit, to contribute to the welfare of underprivileged children, youth and women, with a focus on their healthy development. We established a school October 2021 offering free education to underprivilged children in Nigeria. Helpers Social Development Foundation Our primary goal is on education while our secondary goal is on program of economic empowerment and health awareness programs in Africa.

What lead to the establishment of Helpers Foundation

Helpers Social Development Foundation was established with a mission to reach out to millions of less privileged Africans who are facing the same problems Okeke Chidi faced while growing up as a child. Okeke Chidi Chinwendu was born and raised in a small village in Anambra State, Nigeria.

His father died when he was only 13 years old. His mother faced a lot of challenges in training us after the death of our father. His siblings and I did not have access to many basic needs such as - education, medication, food & nutrition to name a few. These problems at home, made me withdraw from school in order to earn a living and make ends meet for my family.

Despite being an apprentice, he still had a passion for learning and a desire to be well educated. He worked for six years for his boss in Lagos, Nigeria but when the time came, he could not fulfil our written agreement of settling my dues.

At that time he did not have anybody to advocate for me. His elder brother, who was living in Enugu state at that time, invited him to live with him. He introduced him to serve in a building construction firm and from there he learnt how to dig building foundations, block laying, house plastering etc.

Fueled with a passion to learn, every day after work he would go to the evening school through the money he raised through artisan work. He registered and wrote his secondary school examination certificate and got a credit pass.

How Okeke Chidi life transformed after helping others

In 2006, he met a stranger whose car got stranded on the road. After assisting her with her car, she asked him his occupation, which he told her that his is into building construction. Out of trust, she called Chidi one day and gave him a building contract job of N500,000 Naira. After fulfilling her job, she continued to refer clients to Chidi for new jobs.

Through the profits he got from his clients, he was able to be enrolled in a higher institution in 2008 to study marketing as a course and graduated. Okeke Chidi always remember the advice of his late father Mr. Okeke Eugene, who once said to children's that we should always think of that which will add value to people’s lives and nature will present a new life to us. He also told us to be mindful of the friends we kept, because success depends on the types of friends we have.

After working with several companies and further training, Okeke Chidi founded Host Link Global Services Limited, incorporated in the year 2013 and became the Group Managing Director of the company.

How the initiative continued

Chidi was lucky to meet a like-minded woman by the name of Okeke Amarachi Sophia. Amarachi had been providing free education to children who could not go to school through the support of her father since 2003.

Our goals in life were similar and we decided to get married and together make a difference in the lives of underprivileged Nigerians.

From here, we established a nonprofit organization that would offer free education, quality health care and economic empowerment to the less privileged. In a country like Nigeria, unemployment is very high and this has led to wide spread poverty among youth and women. The health care delivery system here is deplorable.

There is an urgent need for a well-rounded initiative that would ensure that youth and women engage in profitable ventures by aiding them to acquire needed skills for self-enhancement and development. Action needs to be taken swiftly to help these people living under the poverty line, make ends meet and have a prosperous tomorrow.
